In flexo platemaking, Photopolymer printing forms (different from direct engraved printing forms) are generated through UV light exposure. The UV light is starting a chemical reaction which leads to cross-linking of plate components. The polymerization process is only happening in areas which were exposed to UV light. This way, a latent image is created which is transformed into a relief during the processing step. Depending on the processing technology, a drying step is required, before plate finishing finalizes the platemaking. The whole process can be separated into following parts:

1st STEP : BACK EXPOSURE :

Expose the plate through the back to build the floor and maximize sensitivity. Back exposure time varies depending on relief depth required.

2nd Step : Laser ablation/ imaging :

Remove the cover film. Mount the plate on the cylinder drum of laser ablation unit. Image is ablated on the plate by CTP prepress process.

3rd Step : Main exposure

( without film negatives)

Expose the plate to form the image.

4th Step : Washout

Mount the exposed plate by double side tape onto the plate holder and wash it out with proper solutions.

5th Step : Drying

Afer rinising the plate surface, dry it well in a hot air dryer at 60 c

6th Step : Post exposure

Expose the plate again to harden remaining polymer with complete photo curing.

7th Step : Finishing

Expose the plate in a light finisher with UVC to eliminate surface tack and improve ink coverage.
